The Recording Industry Association (Singapore) (RIAS) is the national trade association representing Singapore’s recorded music industry. RIAS advocates for the interests of record labels, music producers, and the wider recording industry while promoting the sustainable growth, innovation, and competitiveness of Singapore’s music ecosystem.
The association was established in 1976 as the Singapore Phonogram Videogram Association (SPVA) by eight founding record companies. Since its inception, it has played a pivotal role in advancing Singapore’s recorded music industry through close collaboration with government agencies, regulators, industry stakeholders, and international partners.
In 2001, SPVA was renamed the Recording Industry Association (Singapore) (RIAS) to better reflect its role as the national representative of the recorded music industry. Today, RIAS represents both major and independent record companies operating in Singapore. RIAS works closely with policymakers, copyright authorities, technology companies, and industry stakeholders to strengthen intellectual property protection, promote legitimate music consumption, support digital innovation, and encourage the continued development of Singapore’s recorded music sector.
As Singapore’s national representative to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), RIAS facilitates international cooperation and contributes to the development of global industry policies, standards, and best practices. The association also represents the interests of Singapore’s recording industry on emerging issues, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), copyright policy, digital technologies, and the evolving music business landscape.
