A collaborative effort between the South East Community Development Council and Recording Industry Association (Singapore) (RIAS), the Youth Concert @ South East 2005 on January 29, 2005 provided a platform for many aspiring musicians to showcase their talents.

The field opposite the Paya Lebar MRT station was turned into an outdoor concert arena when youth bands like Pendulous, Crossbred, J.2.A.N, Mosiac and 199 performed alongside established artistes such as A-Do, B.A.D, Zhang Dong Liang, Joi Cai Chun Jia, Celeste Chong, Sylvester Sim and Singapore Idol Taufik Batisah. The concert, which saw a turnout of over 3,000, was the largest ever organized by the South East Community Development Council. Both the audience and the performers clearly appreciated the RIAS message to "Value the Music You Love".

Singer Chitra Padmaja performed Stephanie Sun’s ‘Yu Jian’ even though she did not speak Mandarin. The 18-year-old Mass Communications student agreed that the concert was a good initiative that provided opportunities for budding artistes.

Reinforcing the concert message, South East District mayor Matthias Yao Chih joined the budding talents on stage and gave a noteworthy performance of ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over.’

Judging from the response, the concert was a resounding success. 17-year-old Joshua Yeong was so captivated by the performances that he shared his little dream. “I play with a band called District 13.” said the Bedok resident, “Next time we should audition too!”
